Endovenous Ablation

During this procedure, the doctor inserts a catheter in the affected vein and inserts a liquid anesthetic. The heat from the radiofrequency that is then applied to the damaged vein causes the collagen in the wall of the vein to shrink, which causes the vein to collapse. When this happens, blood is simply shunted to another healthy vein.

When the procedure is completed, the patient is encouraged to walk to lower the risk of complications such as blood clots. The treatment takes approximately 45 minutes.
